APOSTROPHE AUTHOR Bob Maddams joined his Gem TV colleagues on stage in London last night as they collected a prestigious One World Media Award.

The Gem TV team, whose breathtaking films about Ethiopia are helping transform the lives of many in the country, picked up the Special Award at the ceremony, which honours media coverage in the developing world.

Bob’s new book, Lights, Camera, Jemuru – Adventures of a Film-Maker in Ethiopia, tells the incredible story of his involvement with Gem TV. Once a high-flying advertising executive, he quit his job to work with the back-street community film-makers in Addis Ababa following a chance encounter at a party. He stayed for ten years, travelling the country and changing his perception of Ethiopia forever.
